hi everyone. i grew up in the hillcrest section of paterson & in my highschool years hung out with alot of people in the falls area. wow, the memories you all bring back.
i remember my best memories with my mother are when she would bring me upstairs in meyer bros. and let me pick out a book to buy. then she'd take me to lunch in the restaurant up there.
someone mentioned tom's candy store. i lived right on the corner from toms & we used to go there and steal bazooka gum (guess we couln't afford the penny). if you acted up at tom's he'd chase you out w/ a broom.
i remember jimmys pizza too! there was a goofy young italian guy who worked there w/ a heavy accent who was kind of girl crazy. me and my girlfriend used to crank call him on the phone & talk with southern accents and pretend we were his secret admirer & get the guy all worked up. we were so bad, but it was so much fun!
i really don't remember anything being where dunkin donuts except an emty lot w/ grass & stuff. i remember when they were building DD me & my girlfriend were really excited about it & we'd ride our bikes around there everyday to check out the progress.
once DD was built there was a little leather work store right next door. it had alot of the stuff that was really cool in the 70"s like those leather belts & pocketbooks that were embossed w/ flowers and peace signs & stuff. i think it was kind of a head shop too w/ pipes & papers, but i was still pretty young yet & didn't know about that stuff yet. we used to die over the groovy stuff in the window & used to try & save money so we could go in there & bug the guy who owned the place, just like we did in every other store in the area.
does anyone rember "sams" candy store on union ave. as kids there was an old lady that was always in there & we just called her sam all the time, although i don't think she was actually "sam".
my dad used to drop me & my sister at the plaza on a sunday & we'd stay there all day just watching the movie over & over. we saw the sound of music like 10 times. i remember seeing "willard" there & really getting freaked out!
is that library still up & running? i used to love the childrens section. i would imagine it's just a place for crackheads to crashout if its still open. so sad.

Your right Donna there use to be an empty lot where Dunkin Donuts is it always had 2 billboards on it my father knocked them over when some one rammed his car on Richmond ave when a guy ran the light and broadsided him. I ran into Tom's nephew awhile ago he use to work in the store on saturdays he lives in Wayne now I use to hang down there with Ed Bradley and Rich Fortino, Paul Cincotta and Ricky Cerulli, and Jimmy Mertis and alot of the guys from there Bobby Canger the whole gang it was alot of fun hangin on the bridge and the guy who did the leather I still have a wallet and belt he made for me. His father owned Hillcrest Liquers across the street Remember they use to have all the cases of soda on the side walk. And remember the florist on Bershire Ave he would always call the cops if we made to much noise.

yes! the florist! i still dream about that place. my sister & i used to go & bug that old couple also when we wanted to buy something for our mom. we'd go there with like a bunch of change & ask how much everything cost. we must have been the neighborhood dennis the menaces.
i know of the fortinos. ray fortino used to hang out w/ timmy & patrick kane from richmond ave. their little sister maureen was my best friend.
remember that group from the 60's, i think they were called "the happenings", they sang that song "see you in september". well tom (from the candy store), used to always brag how those boys used to hangout in his store & he'd chace them out w/ the broom too, but now that they were famous that he missed them.

You seem to remember me. I haven't thought about that pink Dunkin Donuts uniform in years. Before DD was on that site, I think that it was a field with a billboard. I still have connections with Paterson as I go there an average of 5 times a week. My parents are still living in Paterson. It is really tough sometimes. They say that you "can't go home again". It was a bit depressing when they tore down the Plaza. Thanks to VM I have a piece of the wallpaper and a stone from the facade of the building. Please let me know who you are. I think I have an idea. Did you ride me to work on Sat. mornings at 5:30 AM? ? Robin By the way, I still talk a lot.

Yes I use to drive you to work Saturday mornings and listen to you till we got to work (and they wonder why I drank) only kidding. I use to get a kick out of listing to you. Good to see you've done well with your life. Seems alot of us have come along way from Paterson. But its also still good to see people come together from Paterson. Guess we should all give Bernie a hardy thank you for this site. I bet its made alot of people smile and remember. You enjoy the new school year Robin. Keep educating the kids, their Patersons future. Hopefully they'll turn the city around.

New Kids on the Block is my favourite pop-band of 90s. They had so many hit songs! The ones I remember are 'Tonight', 'Baby, I Believe In You' and, of course their hit 'Step By Step'. These are real masterpieces, not fake like today! And it is awesome they have a tour in 2019! So I'm going to attend their concert this year. The concert setlist is here: New Kids on the Block tour Toronto. Click on it and maybe we can even visit one of the concerts together!
