I lived on Ryerson Ave and I hung out with alot of different groups as I was growing up. I started off with Diane Pepe and then in my early teens I hung with Roberta Hack, there are so many friends how can you really name them all.
Fran Vigorito was a good friend and Sally Morgan and Valerie De Marco and Clara Morgan, Sue Harrison, Dee Aceto. Eddie Oldham and Andy Vander Brink Tommy Stanton and then I wandered off to South Paterson when I went to Central. There I was friends with Cathy Eglin and Mary Blakley and a girl nicknamed "Popeye" I wish that I could find some of them but I have tried, but no luck. Living in the projects you always had so many friends, I remember Barbara Agan was a good frien and Lynn Turner and Jo Ann Grotz and too many to list.

I suppose I should answer my own question. Like JoJo I drifted among groups. Early on. 1953-58, at Brook Sloat www.mykard.com/brooksloat/ my friends were Rich and Sal Carafello, Ed and Bob Baker, Debbie and Patty Meyers, Augeys, Tom Bolen, Jim Mazarini, Sanders, Billy Frasca, Eleanor DeAngelis and others around buildings 48 and 40. Later I would be with Joe and George Happle, the Puglias, Mike Fusco, Ken Johnstone and Marty Grieder. Occasional friends were Shotsie Gorman, Buttons Morley, Bob Sidney, Richie Roselli, Billy Maher, Norbi Udeako, Ray Walsh and several others. And there were others. Carol Sciacca, Linda Edwards, Scott Watson, Eddie Cheff, Carol Staritis, Bobby Swangim, Ray Morgan, George Hanstein, Richie Williams, Sandy, Johnstone, Cherie and Jackie Montgomery. On the AVE I would drift in and out of Belrics, Red's, Debbies, Lou's, Ben's and hang with these folks at times. Again there were just too many to name. Bern

I read where you hung out with Ray Morgan, I would be so happy if I could find his sister Sally. I have been looking for her for many years. You jarred my memory when you mentioned Eddie Chef, I forgot about him. Wasn't he tall and thin back then? Do you remember a guy that they called "Rabbit" his real name was (last name ) Mason? JOJO

JOJO Hey Jo, I also lost track of the Morgans. I know Sally was with Peanuts way, way back, Bernadette married Bob Swaingum and lived in Florida for a while. Eddie Chef was not so tall. Brown hair and very thin. He lived on the Angela end of a row near you on Ryerson. He had a older sister Fran and bro-in-law Roger who lived in the fire lane. He sometimes used the name Marone. His dad owned a gas station on Union and later on W. Broadway by the Brownstone. I don't recall any Masons. The nick Rabbit is familiar but I don't think I ever met the guy.

hmmm...ps#5- Who was your eighth grade teacher? Do You remember Fannie Robinson? Ron Sherman? Miss Lindahl or Mr. DelGuercio/art teacher? Emily Ross- our wonderful girls P.E. teacher-STILL working in Paterson at age 80+?!!Mrs. DelPrete, home ec. teacher? (I read she died this past year.) or Principal Glass with never a hair out of place even in a gale wind? or the bane of all teachers/delightful entertainment to those of us who could only imagine doing what Hampton Alexander dared? Do you still have the "pump lamp" you made in wood shop? And are you one of the young'ns who skipped half of fifth grade when the twice-yearly promotions were ended? Combine that with the mere 5 months we spent in Kindergarten and we were a class of 16 & 17 year olds bursting into the work or college worlds too young to drive! Through eighth grade, buddied with Bonnie Winters, Carol"Murph," Karl Rizzo,(my date for the 8th grade "prom," -Still remember those yellow tea roses-Thanks, Karl) Ralph Ventrella, Barbara Fouldes, Mirella Siniscalci, Gloria Felicita, Marilyn Ferguson, MaryLou Vitale, & the Brownies of troop 81/Girl Scouts Troop 5. Later- a certain very tall handsome "farmer" who drove a vintage Volvo with a double black racing stripe. (Try hiding where you "parked" from your big brother in that hot rod!)- Who remembers all those stories about the "hook" on Garret Mt. or Heartbeat Road? Thanks for the site- enjoyed reminiscing.

Who are you Sheam? I had Sherman in 63 and recall all the techers except DelPrete. I had the wood pump, fish and bookcase I made in Ziccardi's class for a long, long time but but no longer. I was one who was skipped a half grade. I also started school a age 4 due to a late year birthday. I would have been 16 at the 68 graduation but quit HS and returned to grad in 69. We went to Heartbeat Rd. and heard the "heartbeat". it was in Lincoln Pk. I believe. Don't recall the Hook.

Bernard- ...Sherman in 63- Were you in class with Gaetan Pomante? He may have been class of '64- ( & married my dearest friend in'72.) I graduated P.S.#5 in '62- (Still have eighth grade photo of Fannie Robinson's homeroom class- Can I post it?) then on to Central and JFK-First graduating class of Kennedy H.S. in '66. I'm Muriel- grew up on Walnut Street near Hinchliffe Stadium, - used to walk across that huge pipe crossing the Great Falls Chasm before the footbridge was built on top of it, played tag, hide & seek on the hills behind the stadium before the heliport was built, spent summers on the swings at school 5's playground, now living out of town, teaching in the Family & Consumer Sciences Department (inspired by Alice Todd at Central/JFK-) at a middle school. Possible to get this website address to some of the reunion organizers - or published in newspaper with reunion notices? Would enjoy news of old friends/classmates. Zuke, Val, Jan, Ross, Linda, Isabelle, Antoinette, Carolyn, Where & How are you?

Zuke, Val, Jan, Ross, Linda, Isabelle, Antoinette, Carolyn, Where & How are you? Hi Muriel, Both Gaetan and Victor Pomante were classmates. Sorry but I won't post class photos. If I start doing so I may end up swamped with requests to do so for other schools. If someone wants to start photo galleries about Paterson I would link to them. I personally don't have the time to expand the site right now but intend to add stuff when time allows. If someone wants to publicize the site, fine. I hope you find your old friends here. Thanks for stopping by.

Muriel I graduated school 5 in "62" and I had Mrs. Lyndahl right next door to Ms. Robinson. We traveled to her class for I think History (I could be wrong but I do know she MADE me learn the "Gettysburg Address") I also (should have graduated in 66 the first class at Kennedy.) I knew Gloria Felicia she was in my class, did you know James Dolan, John Mason or George Price , Hampton Alexander, Fran Vigorito? There were so many, can't think of them all unless I take out our class picture. If you lived by the stadium did you know the De Marco's? they lived right next door to blind Mary's. JOJo

JoJo- Four score and seven years ago.. I'll bet you still remember it all- Fannie Robinson was pretty scary to most of us- the only teacher who gave homework on the last day of school to be completed during the summer- and required all homework to be written in perfect Palmer method with a fountain pen or a "straight pen."- Remember inkwells? Did you have to create a "New Jersey Booklet?" -More like an encyclopedia! Mine is in storage in my parents' basement-still in Paterson. I remember you and funny, crazy Hampton Alexander- even sort of "dated" George Price in 7th or 8th grade, the DeMarco's- Timmy the youngest?- and Valerie with the most incredible long hair. Jim Dolan hung out with my brother Bill, Gene Clegg, and the Guffarottis-Jeff (last I heard, living in CA) and little bro-"Gooter," and the Skinners (Howie now living out West) all from Liberty Street. I still see Don Succardi (Zuke from 16 Albion Ave- little sister Helen ) probably the smartest man on earth-certainly smartest in the 8th grade in '62. Fannie made him memorize all of the countries in the United Nations and recite them during one of those Friday morning assemblies. Who of us would know if he left one out? For me, the ultimate humiliation was memorizing something called "I am OOOLLLDDD Glory," and performing it dressed in red, white & blue for a Flag Day assembly-every verse punctuated with that phrase pronounced ala Fanny Robinson-Mercifully, it was at the end of the school year- had a hard time living that down. I remember your friend "Popeye" from South Paterson- didn't know her well, also JoBeth Romeo, and Ernestine Randolph ("taught me "Double Dutch,") "The Court Luncheonette." Thanks for the chance to reminisce.

Hi Muriel, I wrote you a long letter and didn't do something right so it didn't get posted. I am going to try another one but I don't remember half of what I said. I don't remember you, did you have Ms.Robinson for a homeroom teacher? It's funny that you mentioned Jeffrey G. for I always remembered what a smart kid he was. I hung around with Valerie De Marco but havenot been able to get in touch with her. Hampton and I were dashers a few times on Field day, they were sure fun times. I am impressed that you said that you remember me. Do you remember Louis Tatti? He is the one that told me about this website or I would never have found it and he also sent me a tee shirt from the last "66" reunion. I will always be very grateful to him for that. Well take care and keep the good memories going and post them when you remember something that might jar my memory. JOJO
